Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin needles into the skin at specific designated points on the body. Acupuncture has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment option for many conditions. It is often used as a successful alternative to, or in combination with other treatment modalities. All of our needles are sterile, single-use, and disposable.
How does it work?
Depending on who you ask, it can be explained under two main theories.
Rooted in Traditional Chinese Theory, one explanation as to how and why illness occurs involves Qi, or vital energy. Qi is meant to flow through our body through a network of meridians or pathways. Injury, disease, or stress can interrupt the smooth flow of Qi through the body, creating a blockage. This blockage, or any disruption in the flow of energy, can affect many processes; digestion, reproductive hormones, sleep and the immune system. Acupuncture helps to clear blockages in the flow of energy, restoring balance and maintaining wellness.
From a more western approach to medical theory, the acupuncture needles can break up muscle adhesion, improve circulation, and prompt a healing immune response. All of this can improve feeling of wellness, decrease pain, and improve function.

What does acupuncture feel like?
Acupuncture should not feel painful. People report experiencing tingling, heaviness, or a slightly achy feeling when the needles are placed. Most people become very relaxed and often even fall asleep during their treatment!
How often should you come for acupuncture?
It has been shown that achieving optimal and lasting benefit comes from receiving acupuncture treatments frequently, at least at the outset. One session may feel good due to acupunctureʼs relaxing effect, but regular treatments over the course of 4-6 weeks is the best way to achieve lasting results.
Depending on the condition being treated, we often recommend weekly, or twice weekly treatments for a few weeks to trigger initial response. After this, people find benefit from coming in weekly or monthly for follow up. Acupuncture works best when given regularly. For this reason, it is very important to us to offer an affordable option.
